Car AC | Performance GMC Cadillac near Lancaster, OHWhen you switch on your AC, you’re looking forward to waves of cold air. Your car AC not working can ruin your time behind the wheel on a hot day. Fortunately, your GMC dealer can fix the problem for you. These are a few signs of an AC going bad.

Bad Smells From the AC

Your AC system is cool, dark, and moist. It’s also not used for a long period over winter. These circumstances all make the AC a perfect place for bacteria and mold to live. Their spores are inevitably drawn into your car in the airflow, and they can take up residence in the ducts and on the air filter. When summer arrives and you switch on your AC for the first time, you’ll be hit by the stale, musty smell of mold.
You can’t prevent mold spores from getting into the AC, but our technicians can swiftly remove them if they do. We’ll pump a strong anti-mold cleaning solution into the AC system and replace the air filter with a new one. This treatment will have the mold cleared up and your AC sweet-smelling again in no time.

Cool AC

If your AC is producing cool and not cold air, this means your AC has a problem. The three causes of your AC only blowing cool air are a refrigerant leak, a damaged condenser, or a failing compressor. Refrigerant is the chemical used to chill the air in your AC. A leak will reduce the pressure in the AC, and the increasing lack of refrigerant will prevent your AC from becoming cold.
The condenser is responsible for converting refrigerant gas into a liquid and removing the heat it’s absorbed. The compressor, in contrast, converts the refrigerant from a gas into a liquid. If either of these components fails, your AC will only blow cool air. Our technicians will need to investigate, and we’ll repair or replace the cause of the problem.

Leaking Refrigerant

As we’ve seen, refrigerant is essential for your AC. Refrigerant is odorless and colorless, and this makes a leak almost impossible to see. Depending on the location of the leak, refrigerant can leak out as a liquid or a gas. You will, however, see evidence of a leak by the steady increase in your AC’s temperature. Leaking refrigerant also places your AC under additional strain.
Our technicians will inject a UV chemical dye into the AC. We then use a special AC viewer to watch the refrigerant moving through the system. The scanner will reveal the exact position of the leak, and our technicians will repair it.
